The article deals with the bovarysme as the attempt to spend an illusive life like Emma Bovary from the novel “Madame Bovary” by Flaubert or Mathilde Loisel from the short story “Necklace” by Maupassant. Comparison of their origin, upbringing, education, reading books caused the formation of the myth of ideal husband and real happiness. Special attention is paid to balls that influenced on the further life of each heroine. If the formation of the myth of Paris in the imagination of Flaubert’s heroine caused her death, the life of Maupassant’s heroine was changed by loss of other’s treasure.
