Abstract

Various developments in contemporary ethnic cultures and ways of approaching the fundamental challenges that the mankind has to face impact the basic axioms responsible for configuring and "tuning" respective worldviews. The said axiomatic informational quanta are traditionally associated with myth while the irrational part of human psyche employs them as basic operators defining the range and trajectories of multi-vectored "fuzzy" categorization of the world. In the context of global transformations followed by the transition towards neo-anthropocentric, eco-centric categorization patterns the mentioned mythic axioms become re-profiled and acquire new features. Respectively, we speak of re-profiling traditional understanding of MAN's nature and mental capacities targeted by present-day linguistics. The article comes up with the integrating universalia-focused analysis of lingual means responsible for designating concepts of human "mental sphere". The research is carried out within the framework of neo-anthropocentric methodology and myth-oriented semiosis theory. The article discusses basic characteristics of human "mental sphere" from the standpoint of the previously introduced universal model of MAN. We suggest a formal-logical pattern of MAN's transformations occurring in the course of mythic scenarios and resulting in acquiring the qualities of "wise" / "reasonable". Etymological analysis of the WISDOM and REASON concepts' names revealed universal semantic features, associated with the said notions (primarily, "seeing", "adroitness", "breathing", "fury", "sign", "poetry", "recognizing", "remembering" etc. consequently referred to the inchoative "programs" of either "cutting, beating, disassembling" as a foundation of analytical mental operations or those of "feeling, insight, power" responsible for the irrational synthetic operations. The said semantic features are interpreted in terms of their typological, associative and causative correlations. The article highlights textual representations of the said conceptualized qualities and identifies basic components of mythic space to which they are commonly ascribed. Therefore we speak of specific features and limitations of traditional (mostly rational, analytical) ways of cognition and register the traces of understanding WISDOM as a result of irrational synthetic mental operations potentially capable of establishing connections between phenomena of diverse systems, worlds and their hierarchies
