The article deals with the main sense, pragmatic and stylistic features of newspaper narratives. The main attention is focused on the notion of narrative strategy as a principle of structuring the text of a newspaper article. The narrative is defined as a text (in a broad sense) or a number of texts which describe socially important events in the order of their unfolding and are constructed in line with certain speech and content models. The elements of newspaper narrative include (1) eventfulness, (2) sequentiality, (3) temporality, (4) experientiality. One more factor which determines the existence of the narrative is its referentiality, or allusion to objects that exist in the real world. Besides, the mass media texts in their bulk take part in organizing social memory.
