Abstract

Abstract. The article is dedicated to the synthesis of arts in vocal music. The main tasks is envisaged in the overview of the genre of the musical portrait in an aspect of inter-art connections. The synthesis of arts appears as a typical need of XX century culture that is called upon to increase the interest in the strengthening of visual qualities of works of art. The scientific novelty is in the study of specific features of the mentioned genre in the works of F. Pulenc. The article overviews the vocal cycle’s “Le Travail du Peintre” dramatic structure identical to the literature cycle, and draws parallels with the typical contemporary directions for the composer in avant-garde art – cubism, surrealism, etc. The main feature of the cycle is the exploitation of the musical portrait genre for the depiction of the artist’s character. The conclusion of the research is in the fact that beside the in-depth connections between literature and fine art in the vocal cycle of F. Pulenc, the psycologism as a notable feature of the portrait is discovered. This gives ground to view the musical portrait genre in the synergic context in further works.
