Abstract

The article analyses the Þ gure of Oleksander Shylhyn, one of the leaders of the Promethean Movement; the secretary of foreign affairs of the Central Council of Ukraine, UNR ambassador to Bulgaria, and in the period 1942-1944, head of the UNR governmentin- exile. His diplomatic activity, as a representative of the Ukrainian National Republic, was described on the basis of émigré press articles. The author underlines his role in protecting the rights of Ukrainian refugees and emigration within inter-war international organizations. He strongly believed in the identity of Ukrainians, as an independent nation equal to other European nations. The author also indicates Oleksander Shulhyn’s academic works during his period of emigration in Prague and Paris, and his contribution to the theory of the Promethean Movement.
