Abstract

The article covers the history of hot enamel and the ways of its spread around the world. Among the many technical and technological features of the use of enamel, one of its varieties – painted – has been studied in detail. Given that the features of some types of enamel techniques are not distinguish, it became necessary to clarify the term of the painted enamel, the specifics of execution and highlight the differences in the use of local craftsmen from different countries. It was found that the French city of Limoges was the cornerstone in the development and spread of this technique. Due to the latter, the XVIII century was the period of the greatest spread of painted enamel in France, China, Iran and Ukraine. Partial copying and imitation of individual artistic discoveries in this field, over time, deepened the use of masters only technology with the enrichment of national characteristics in the choice of plots. Given the purpose of the article, special attention was paid to highlighting the characteristics that are inherent in the paintings of local masters of each country. In particular, the differences between the products of Cantonese and Beijing artists, traditional techniques of Iranian hot enamel and domestic enamel. The specific plots, colors and composition of the finished products were analyzed on specific examples. It was found that Chinese painted enamels are characterized by thematic compositions and the use of cartouches, Iranian – ornamental and floral patterns, in turn, the Ukrainian have a religious orientation. The color scheme in different countries varies, from the division into “pink” and “green” family in some, to the preference for blue shades in others. The information contained in this article will be useful in an in-depth study of the features of painted enamels in Europe and the East; when studying the technology of painting enamel; in the study of the history of enamel and its development.
