Abstract

The article discusses a universal concept of “path” on the basis of M.Leskov’s novels “Gora” (The montain) and “Zapechatlenniy angel” (A stamped angel). The novels contain image-symbolic, plot and motive parallels with a precedent text, the Bible. The place of the highest sanctity is the mountain of Ader that symbolizes hardship and personifies spiritual ascent/descent; that is why the path to the summit is a peculiar initiation. The motive of road is maintained by the character of angel-guide.
