Abstract

Research experience of investigating the problem of students’ independent learning activity in its historical-and-didactical aspect is summarized in the article; some modern tendencies in researching the matters connected are also analyzed. Investigation of the approaches to defining the concepts of “activity”, “cognitive activity”, “independent work”, “independent cognitive activity”, “learning activity” made it possible to define the essence of the notion of “Higher School students’ independent learning activity” in its present-day understanding.
