Abstract
The article aims at investigating the structural characteristics of complex interrogative sentences with clauses of comparison and reason in Middle and Early New English. Primary attention is paid to lexicogrammatical means and word order of the sentences. They are viewed in diachronic perspective, the analysis is based on rich data selected from Middle and Early New English texts representing different literary genres. The author seeks to detect the connection between the text genre and usage frequency of the interrogative sentences in question.
