Abstract
The period of activity at St. Volodymyr University the teachers of the department of Russian history a Ukrainian historian, a scientist, a St. Volodymyr University Professor, an archeographer Vasyl’ Fedorovych Dombrovsky (1810–1845) in 1838–1844 years and a well-known Ukrainian and Russian scientist, a historian and a publicist, a romantic poet, a thinker, a public figure, one of the leaders of Cyril and Methodius Society Mykola Ivanovych Kostomarov (1817–1885), a St. Volodymyr University Professor at the beginning of his teaching and research career at St. Volodymyr University from August 1846 to March 1847 in Kyiv during the period (1844–1847) of his life are researching in the article. It is proved that V. F. Dombrovsky, who with his pedagogical work and private research example inspired his contemporaries to study the history of a native land, a region, a town, to explore the historical and cultural heritage of the Ukrainian people should occupy an honored place among teachers and scientists of Ukraine of the first half of the XIX century. It is noted that the contribution of St. Volodymyr University Professor Dombrovsky in the formation of Ukrainian archaeography was significant for his time and had a positive impact on its work. It is proved that during the work at St. Volodymyr University it was started the formation of Kostomarov as a university teacher and a scholar and it was significantly formed the direction of his life as a citizen, a historian and a scholar. Mykola Kostomarov considered the Kyiv period of his life and work at St. Volodymyr University as the happiest and brightest moments of his life. It is argued that V. F. Dombrovsky and M. I. Kostomarov by their activities at the St. Volodymyr University started the first period of the formation of St. Volodymyr University historians’ scientific school, became among the founders of Ukrainian historical education and science, began the researching, development and publication of documentary history of Ukraine, put the traditions of Ukrainian educational and scientific space.
