Abstract

Thesis deals with the system modifications of Victorian biography in works of the twentieth century. The dissertator studies the processes of extrapolation of genre features of Victorian biographical works into the Western European biographies (especially German and Italian), as well as Soviet ones. It was found that Victorian biography was popular in totalitarian Western countries (Germany, Italy) and in the former Soviet Union. Fascist Germany literature borrowed English Victorian traditions and took control of the political demands of power. This resulted in the inability of literature to develop in any other direction. In the USSR, the situation was somewhat different. Soviet literature borrowed Victorian traditions, which were created and based on myths about Kremlin leaders as wise leaders and common people that care only about the future of Soviet citizens. It also has the peculiarity that with the destroying of the totalitarian regime in the USSR it didn’t lose interest unlike German literature, but it is still the subject of exploring. In this thesis the peculiarities of description of time and space were studied in the works of Victorian type. Time and space in Victorian biography is characterized by the dominant use of linear time. Neoviktorian biography was authors attempt to return to the classic Victorian canons in the new historical conditions late XX – early XXI century. It shows author’s neutrality in the image of the hero, an objective assessment of his life, text detailing the various historical documents. Studying of globalization has allowed to determine that they have made a significant contribution to the development of biography, making of absolutely new kind – sensational biography, based on the scandalous and intimate details of the life of the hero. Was found that globalization changes are mostly negative, because they cause erasing of ethnic differences in literature, popular characters are now popular criminals, criminal authorities, representatives of different subcultures. Research of composite features in works of sensational biographies allowed to reveal that its main compositional element is a conflict, because it is the driving force that makes the whole plot to build around. Were found the main areas of the life of the hero which begin to dominate in the latest sensational biographical works. In the foreground images private life of the individual, above all sensational and scandalous details. Hero raises as a real person, which is inherent in the various flaws and shortcomings, which are focused by the writer.
