Abstract
The book examines the history of many active monasteries in Ukraine; The essence of the phenomenon of monasticism and its manifestations in the Ukrainian territory, and also the most characteristic features typical for Orthodox and Catholic monastic practice. Particular attention is paid to the value of monasteries in the spread of education, development book publishing, shaping the canons of church architecture and sacred preservation of the Ukrainian culture.
