Abstract
The sociocultural portrait of the historians Volodymyr Fedorovych Dombrowskiy, Mykola Ivanovych Kostomarov, Platon Vasyl’ovych Pavlov of the Department of Russian History at St. Volodymyr University is researching in the article. It is investigated that at the end of 30-ies - in 60-ies of the XIX century by their teaching, research, social and educational activities Volodymyr Dombrowskiy and Mykola Kostomarov created the first period, and Platon Pavlov created the second period of the School of Historians of St. Volodymyr University of the XIX century. It is established that Volodymyr Dombrowskiy, Mykola Kostomarov, Platon Pavlov by their diverse activities showed a cult of knowledge, a high erudition and a common culture, their desire to create and professionally train talented scientists, educate a young generation of citizens with widely and impartially thinking, and inspired others to explore the history and culture of their native land, which contributed to the foundation of the traditions of the School of Historians of St. Volodymyr University as a whole.
