Abstract
The article presents the educational activities of the famous Ukrainian composer P. P. Sokalskyi and their importance for the development of Ukrainian musical culture in the second half of XIX century. The lectures of the artist for the representatives of the Society of Music Amateurs of second half of XIX century were analyzed. These lectures can be considered to be the &rst attempts to popularize music among the general public of music arts amateurs through the form of lectures in Ukraine.
