Abstract
Foreign language teachers mark out with well-formed foreign language competence, which is a part of the sociocultural competence. The latter requires certain cultural knowledge. The article offers teachers a description of the British Enlightenment artistic culture, namely its main directions: Enlightenment classicism, Enlightenment realism and sentimentalism. The material introduces the characteristic features of Baroque, Rococo and Romanticism in architecture, fine arts, literature, music.
