Abstract
The article represents creative personality of famous composer and opera conductor V. Yorish whose work had been forgotten for a long time in Ukraine. The article is devoted to the 70 th anniversary from the composer’s death. Not popular facts of his biography and creative way are represented in it. It is given an overview of composer’s opera masterpiece of the 20s of the 20 th century under materials of Ukrainian periodicals of such period as well as his enlightenment activity. Actuality of such article is based on representation of Ukrainian opera art development in the 20s of the 20 th century. The purpose of the following article is reflection of operatic art of Ukrainian composer V. Yorish in periodicals’ report in the following period. It is examined the opera “Karmeliuk” as the fact of national operatic art history. Peculiarities of liberto, musical dramaturgy and scenography are shown in comments of musical and critical printed media in the 20s of the 20 th century. V. Yorish’s operatic art reflects certain achievements and contradictions of that time. Aspiration for recreation of present subjects and valour plots of national history with the modern means on the one hand, and denial of special features incidental to opera style, voluntary attitude to the laws of opera dramaturgy, on the other hand. All these caused to disappearance and partial oblivion of V. Yorish’s opera “Karmeliuk” popular in the 20s of the 20 th century.
