Abstract
The article deals with the issue of parameters of time and space in the novels “One Hundred Years of Solitude” by Gabriel García Márquez and “Eye of Abyss” by Valeriy Shevchuk from the prospective of both texts belonging to the metagenre of metaphorical novel. Fictional time in the novels symbolizes historical time in general (“One Hundred Years of Solitude”) or represents eternal philosophical problems (“Eye of the Abyss”). The fictional time of both novels combines features of linear and cyclic time, which makes them similar to myth. Fictional space is divided into separate unequally important parts, transition between locuses is complicated. In the novel by Gabriel García Márquez the topos of Macondo is always the center of focalization, and the characters are depicted only until they leave the town. In the novel by Valeriy Shevchuk the character’s transition from one topos to the other corresponds to transition between compositional parts of the text. Fictional time and space are no longer just a background for the unfolding of a story but objects of attention in themselves, this feature results from the metagenre specifics: a metaphorical novel aims not at telling a story but at creating a fictional model of reality.
