Abstract
The article provides the analysis of Umberto Eco’s book “The Name of the Rose” as a typological model of a postmodern detective story. It takes a closer look at this model in other postmodern detective narratives of various national literary collections. Based on the principles described by Eco in his work “The Role of the Reader: Explorations in the Semiotics of Texts”, this article carefully examines the chain “author – narrator –reader, which operates in the so-called open texts of postmodern detective stories.
