The thesis focuses on the cognitive and discursive peculiarities of the communicative support expression in modern English ordinary and psychotherapeutic discourse. The research has revealed a multi-intentional basis of the communicative support, verbal expression of which is provided by the utterances of different content and structure ensuing the same cognitive scenario. The paper accentuates the interactive essence of communicative support. The author identifies the communicative support discourse, qualifying it as a specific modification of an intentional discourse, determines its structure and boundaries. The main constituent role is given to the communicative support act which enables realization of the communicative support intention in different situations of interpersonal communication. A strong emphasis is placed on its interdiscursive relations, which enable the communicative support discourse to penetrate into other discourse types giving appearance to ordinary and psychotherapeutic subtypes of the communicative support act. Within semantic studies the results obtained have revealed a complex content of the communicative support which integrates the meanings of the communicative and semantic categories of approval, consolation, defense, praise, sympathy and encouragement. Along with the integral content characteristics of the communicative support their content features served as the basis for the frame modeling. The findings indicate cognitive structure of the communicative support in the represented invariant frame which comprises propositional schemes of the supportive utterances. The author clarifies the hierarchy structure of the frame model, distinguishing ordinary and psychotherapeutic communicative support as its modifications. 20 The thesis also provides analysis of the speech acts which represent the communicative support act. The level comprises identification of the strategic potential of the communicative support discourse. Within the global coordinative macrostrategy, aimed at providing moral help to the recipient through the regulation of their emotional state or behavior, local communicative strategies of the communicative support discourse have been defined. The author introduces discourse-relevant and discourse-irrelevant tactics to specify the modes ordinary and psychotherapeutic subtypes of the communicative support are realized in speech. Further research presupposes the study of the scenario of successful dialogue interaction with a participant who suffers some kind of psychologic and emotional deviation. Another perspective comprises the analysis of such situations in different fields of institutional communication.
