Abstract
The dynamics of aging of the elderly characters in the US play is tackled. The author argues that the play “Driving Miss Daisy” by Alfred Uhry reflects modern American Zeitgeist in terms of the concept of successful aging. The research relies upon the basics of literary gerontology. There has been detected an active strategy of aging of dramatis personae, gerontological markers, ageist lines (reflections and actions), heterotopia of the nursing home. The subgroups of young old, middle old, and old old characters are analyzed.
