Abstract
The article addresses intensions, traditions and innovation as intertextual quotations in the works by Lina Kostenko. Intensive usage of ancient intertext in her poetry facilitates the author’s interpretations of historiosophic issues and solutions to them (i.e. understanding the sources and ways of development of Ukrainian state). The said phenomenon also contributes to meditative and philosophic nature of the analyzed poetic texts. Intertextual selections from the “donor-texts” allude to the author’s worldview dominants and personal features (love for freedom and rebelliousness as an integral feature of Prometheus and the poet’s “alter ego”). Except for personal intentions and preferences, Lina Kostenko’s use of intertext is determined by historical and artistic realia marked by postmodern slogans of “author’s death”, the trend of dominant hyper-receptiveness, intertextual quotations, the use of collage and pastiche etc. Among numerous characters of ancient mythology employed in Lina Kostenko’s artistic paradigm the image of Prometheus is distinguished by special symbolic potential. As this character enjoys mostly positive interpretation in world literature (initiated by Aeschylus), Lina Kostenko goes along with this tendency. She associates the unsubdued Titan-tyrantfighter with the poet-prophet, poet-seer, and poet-medium. At the same time her interpretation is somewhat different from the traditional ones for they demonstrate individual features like “dialogue intimacy”, narrator’s “approximating” to the mythic character, hesitations and longing for the proof of her living and artistic strategies’ accuracy etc.
