Abstract
The article aims to research the aspects of the organizational, national and patriotic activity of Ukrainian prisoners of war, particularly officers and members of Cultural and Educational Group at Joseffstadt camp in Austro-Hungary from the second half of 1917 to the beginning of 1918. It became possible after the Ukrainization of the camp and transferring Ukrainian officers, who agreed in the reports for the Austrian camp commandants. After the removal from Joseffstadt the Russian Black Hundreds representatives, it gave a possibility to intensify national and patriotic activity among Ukrainians and form the vision of the state in Ukrainian officers' consciousness. It was determined that the establishment of the Ukrainian prisoners' of war community became possible due to the supplement of camp libraries with Ukrainian literature and magazines, the organization of various educational courses and several lectures in the field of Ukrainian studies, the activity of amateur theatre, national and patriotic events.
