Abstract
In the thesis for the first time in the Ukrainian literature studies a complex research of particularities of portraying was conducted on the materials on non-fiction literature, its specificity in literature works of different genres was interpreted, elements of portrait characteristics were traced out, dominant approaches to portrait creation were defined. The system classification of portraits in the Ukrainian non-fiction literature was upgraded according to the newest research results in literature studies. Portrait structure, its semiotics and semantics in different genres of memoir and biographical (autobiographical) literature was specified. Modifications of portraits in non-fiction literature works were developed. Wording of such theoretical concepts as portrait, concentrated portrait, deconcentrated portrait, self-portrait, pair portrait, collective portrait, oneiric portrait, necroportrait was extended and made more precise. A number of texts, in particular the ones of the last years, which never have been a subject of studies before, as well as little-known archive materials, were involved.
