Abstract
The article is dedicated to the legal aspects of the political theory of Thomas Hobbes. The exercise of law to explain and to legitimate the sovereign power conception, it’s nature and ultimate goals of the state were analyzed. It is stated that in the Hobbes state construction law is fundamental. His conception of rule of law includes the formal and substantive aspects. Formal legality, standards of justice underpin the state organization. Legal resources but not legitimate arbitrariness ensure sustainability and stability of supreme power.
