Abstract
The author of the article analyses the spreading of the Russian languages in different regions of Ukraine, the functioning of the Ukrainian and Russian languages in our country in XXth century, the assimilation of the Ukrainian elite. On the whole the situation can be denoted as Ukrainian-Russian bilingualism.
