Abstract
The article is devoted to the analysis of the historical preconditions for the formation of a system of pre-school education in France. The author describes the peculiarities of the development of the network of preschool institutions, describes their functioning in the historical retrospective, identifies the specific features of preschool education since the beginning of the establishment of the first institutions for preschool children and to the present, the main stages of the formation of the system of preschool education have been determined.
