Abstract
Born on the basis of customary rules in individual communities far from state institutions, the Cossack law has found development in the life of the soviet society. From the end of the seventeenth century. it was observed in the use of volosts in the process of conducting Cossack proceedings. The oral form of the norms of the Cossack law makes it difficult to study the evolution of the regulator of relations between the Cossacks. At the same time, its presence had a significant impact on the formation of the statuses of the Cossacks, establishing it in the social structure of Ukrainian society.
