Abstract
The ethno-linguistic analysis of Ukrainian phraseology, motivated by demonological people’s ideas, is represented in the article. The ethnocultural background of studied language units is described. The ethnocultural elements of demonological ideas are encoded in Ukrainian phraseology, including the idea of the spirits of nature (earth spirit, spirit of mines, field spirit and others), the idea of demonic creatures whose actions harm people (poverty, distress, misfortune, disaster, bat, ghost, mania, surprisingly etc.) demonological imaginations, associated with the other world and ancestor worship (brownie, mermaids, rahmans), and the idea of demons purposes. Demonological representation of imaginations of Ukrainians in phraseology is made explicitly, divided into small portions of idioms and code mythological motivation implicitly.
