Abstract
The dialects spoken in the district of Ripky, situated north-west of Chernihiv, already constitute the object of a larger research project. In the literature the dialects of this area are generally defined as ‘transitional’ from Ukrainian to Belarusian. Notwithstanding a number of potential and real Belarusian features, in this article I pursue a more modest aim. I intend to analyze the most typical features of those local dialects (cf. Ukr. hovirky) located very close to the district centre, postponing to a more advanced stage of research a further comparison with other local dialects spoken along the Ukrainian-Belarusian border.
