Abstract
The main theoretical issues of modern concepts of physical education and sport in European countries are examined in this article. Examples of higher educational establishments in England illustrate basic ideas and principles of the system of physical education as well as methods of popularizing sports among stu- dents of England; shows the features of physical education in higher education institutions in European countries.
