Abstract
A substantive analysis of the main categories and concepts of the media education sphere is presented: media culture, media education, media literacy, critical thinking, media competence, contained in scientific publications, in order to identify and find out their content load, essential characteristics and main features. According to the results of the study, we can state that the media education sphere is extremely important, especially for the younger generation, as it shapes the outlook, the value characteristics of the individual, the critical perception of the media, protects against harmful media influences and other threats and risks bearing numerous media texts, makes it possible to evaluate, create and transmit media messages in various forms and genres, as well as to analyze complex processes of the sociocultural and political context of the operation of honey and in society, to understand the code and representative systems that use the media.
