Abstract
The article includes the analysis of social significance of sports and shows that process of preparation in sport has to be organized through the development of high moral and spiritual qualities of an athlete. However, the literature analysis of Ukrainian and Russian scientific sources has shown that there is no straight connection between the results of competitive activity in sports and the level of moral qualities (universal values) of athletes.
