Abstract
The purpose of the article is to identify the concept of «innovation» and to disclose the information array about innovations in the library and information field, presented in the professional periodicals. The subject of the research is the scientific-theoretical and practical journal «Bibliotechnyi visnyk» as the leading sectoral professional journal. The objectives of the study were: to carry out the quantitative analysis of the publications of the «Bibliotechnyi visnyk» for 2011-2017; to reveal the materials related to innovations; to define of the contribution of the scientific journal in the process of identification and evaluation of sectoral innovations. To achieve the goal, a set of research methods is used: general scientific theoretical and special methods, in particular, problem-thematic, genre-type, quantitative, content-analysis. According to the results of the research, the grounded conclusion is: professional periodicals are the communication channel through which innovation models are published and distributed in the field; processes of identification and evaluation of sectoral innovations are carried out
