Abstract

The article attempts to reconstruct the mother and child’s everyday life in the manorial estates in Ukraine in the first half of the XIX century. Galagan’s family papers were the source for this study. The Galagans belonged to the Ukrainian nobility, to the descendants of Cossack officers of the former Hetmanate. They were wealthy landowners and influential public figures. The article shows the position of a noble woman in the privacy of manor and the problems of birth and upbringing of the child. It is childbirth and child feeding, the search for home doctors and educators, the organization of the learning process.
