Abstract
This article deals with the analysis of the institutional changes and normative dimensions of modernization in Poland and Ukraine. The article focuses on the cultural determinants of the processes of the social changes in Central and Eastern Europe, the role of power class in the implementation of a new values. The author generalizes theoretical approaches concerning this values and ideological contradictions between two autonomic versions of modernizations: the concept of economical optimization that was proposed by a metropolitan dependent political class versus the modernization of rules, norms and institutions. The social experience of Ukrainian groups and communities is actualized as a part of external influences and a model that is not related to the social and cultural demands of civil society. Another model is considered in the article as a product of a reformed elites which despite their long occupational experience have become the driving force of political and economical modernization. This paper emphasizes that the role of cultural and historical preconditions of the processes of the modernity changes is getting stronger, in spite of the spread of various theoretical views positing the diminishing their significance. The analysis is centered around different aspects of complex modernization related to Christian and economic liberalism as well as the clash of values: liberalism versus communitarianism. Based upon the generalization of theoretical approaches of the formation and evolution of Ukrainian and Polish society, the various aspects of the functioning of middle class groups are explored: the potential of the intellectuals, small biasness groups, entrepreneurs, church authorities as a major factor of modernization is reconstructed. It is also explores the role and significance the values of self-expression in the processes of the formation and development of a new social order.
