Abstract
This work is an integral part of research of the essence of linguistic terminology in the historical aspect. On the basis of the explanatory formula of concept content (EFCC) the concept «language» was analyzed in the period of the end of the XIX – the first third of the XX century. According the obtained results the definition was synthesized.
