Abstract
The article deals with the poetics of the title of the novel «Sun from the West» (1949) by Ulas Samchuk. The writer preferred deeply symbolic titles. The ecphrasis of the political posters of Mikhailo Mikhalevich on the Carpatho-Ukrainian theme helped to decode the title of the novel. The political poster «Glory to Ukraine!» with the image of the rising sun inspired the writer in choos-ing the title for the novel. The title encodes important meanings for the national existence of Ukrainians and the author’s belief in the indispensable appearance of an independent Ukrainian state.
