Abstract
The author investigates the unknown pages of intellectual biographies of prominent Ukrainian scientist, humanist and writer Viktor Petrov (V. Domontovych). The article highlights the contribution of scientists in the theory and practice of national archeology - studying Trypillya, Zarubintsy and Slavic archaeological culture, on the history of primitive and medieval and other. It is proved that V. Petrov came in archeology due to reorganization processes, covering Soviet science in the late 1920s – early 1930s, not in search of safer areas as most of his biographers says.
