Abstract
The article deals with the issues of working with the media in terms of modernization of the Ukrainian language curriculum in secondary schools. It highlights the development of students’ media and rhetorical competence. It is emphasized that the content of educational materials, in particular, information on such actual types of text as media and retorical should be determined in terms of usefulness and necessity not only in school but also in everyday activities, in practical communication, in self -affirmation of the individual in society. It is determined that on the basis of the processing of media texts, the philologist should form students’ ability to perceive, interpret and analyse the texts, and then use them in a creative activity. It is noted that it is quite logical to create a media text to complement the language specific task: it is advisable to use certain grammatical forms, syntactic constructions, etc. It has been determined that media competence is the understanding of media types and their impact mechanisms on people and society, the ability to understand, analyze and evaluate media content, to search for the necessary information, ability to use the media during training and leisure time, to create media products, self-presentation skills, to communicate with other media users, to evaluate their own media activity critically. It is emphasized that rhetorical competence is the mastery of rhetorical knowledge, skills and abilities that determine the ability and readiness for effective and optimal communication, the ability to express their own thoughts accurately and clearly, to persuade the correctness of their reasoning, to have the basics of successful convincing communication, attitude to communication as to value, initiative in communication, that is, the ability to be a communicative leader. Examples of tasks that contribute to the formation of media and rhetorical competence are given
