The article is addresses the formation of а new historical region on Ukrainian landsin the second half of the 14th century – Podillia. Based on the analysis of written sour-ces the article outlines the composition of this big region stretching for over 500 km fromWest to East, from Kamianets’ and Smotrych to Cherkasy and Zvenyhorod. It demon-strates how a region takes shape along the trade routes in the middle of the 14th cen-tury, the region, which until that time had no independent principality and from the13th century was ruled by the Mongols and then the Golden Horde. Political changes1340–1350 years led to the disappearance Kingdom of Rus’, and the crisis in the GoldenHorde. These events gave impetus to the expanse of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania’s in- fluence over the territory and princes Koriatovych taking control over the major settle-ments along the routes running on the left bank of the Dnister river and the Southern Buh basin.
