Many works have been written about the immortal creation of Cervantes and a number books and articles about the sayings that abound in it. Four hundred years separate us from the characters of Don Quixote, who not only speak through sayings, but also give advice about their usage, their judgments and their value. Being one of the most translated books in the world, Don Quixote contributes to the knowledge and dissemination of Spanish sayings among readers of other countries. During II International Symposium of Spanish and Hispano-American Literature in Brasília I will try to contrast Don Quixote's sayings, proverbs with the current literary and linguistic reality, to point out that so many of them have survived today and remain popular, known and used in the literature of the 21st century.
