Abstract
The article analyzes the fundamental epistemological problem - a question that is presented as the first step in cognition. The subject of the study is considered in the context of metaphysics of Emerich Сoreth, who believed that metaphysics is a question about a question, also in the context of the achievements of the Prague Linguistic School. Prague linguists upheld the conviction that each narrative sentence contains well-known information (theme) and new knowledge (rheme). The question contains a theme and a requirement to supplement it with a rheme. However, the information that is articulated in the question limits the possibilities of an answer.
