Abstract
The article analyzes the dramaturgy of Borys Grinchenko in terms of identity construction. The concept of memory was comprehended as a way of asserting human identity. It has been noted that obliviousness is a challenge that an actor may endure in order to preserve their identity. The study takes into account the existing typology of memory: personal-autobiographical and social-collective. In addition, the study considered three levels of memory and identity interaction: cognitive, behavioral, and emotional. The purpose of the research is to distinguish artistic way of constructing memory by the playwright in search of identity based on Borys Grinchenko's dramas and outline constructed identity models. The typological and the receptive methods were used to achieve this goal. Based on the theoretical foundations in the study, the analysis presents the most expressive characters, such as Martha, Pavel Levchuk ("Getting cloudy"), Lydia and Pavel Karbovsky ("On a new way"), Amin, Dmitry, Helen ("Glowing stars"), Yakima, Vasilyn ("Steppe Guest"). B. Grinchenko argues that a person with a stable identity is more prone to forgive a relative (a tribal memory) than an enemy. The choice made during the test of good and evil contributes to the ultimate revealing of identity. To highlight a lasting identity, the playwright uses a technique of contrast.
