Abstract
The article analyzes the contribution of domestic educational congresses to the development of physical education of students at the end of the 19th - beginning of the 20th centuries, in particular, their features and periods are described, attention is paid to the difference between courses and congresses, and congresses (pedagogical, teacher, congresses on public education, zemsky congresses, medical, Pirogovsky congresses, congresses with experimental pedagogy), which took place on the Russian lands and on the role of zemstvos in their organization. The resolution of the pedagogical congress of 1916 in Kiev is partially cited, it is noted that pedagogical congresses of 1960-1970 contributed to the search for effective forms of organization and working methods of educational institutions, teaching methods for educational subjects, as well as solving urgent problems of physical education of children and youth.
