Abstract
The article analyzes the historical and cultural context of writing Anatoly Rybakov's novel «Heavy Sand». Temporal retrospection in the novel is analyzed. The complexities of literary life of that time are considered. Particular attention is paid to censorship in Soviet literature. The author was forced to follow the rules of description of the Second World War. Recently, a great deal of research has been devoted to the topic of time and historical memory. Various explorations of the influence of time and context on certain stages of creation and influence of Anatoly Rybakov's novel «Heavy Sand» are made. Сhildren's memories make up a certain outline of the novel Heavy Sand – the writer has repeatedly pointed out that the novel takes place in the town of Snovsk, just as this city is a prototype of the city of Revsk in his other work, Cortik. The aspiration for the authenticity of the area was also preserved by the creators of the TV series Heavy Sand – in the beginning of the two thousand years (at that time it was called Shchors) a whole town was built on five hectares. A. Rybakov thoroughly studied the "spirit of the city", reconstructed events from the words of eyewitnesses and used his experience as a combatant. It was his deep immersion in the cultural and historical context that enabled him to accurately and insightfully portray the joyful, everyday and especially tragic pages of twentieth-century history. The question of the authenticity of the description of the victims of the Holocaust is raised. Particularly important is the immersion of the author in the environment, the gathering of eyewitness accounts, the observance of historical truth. It is noted that attention to the “Jewish question” was caused by the writer's inner desire to explore the fate of his people. It is important that Anatoly Rybakov belonged to Soviet writers of the “first magnitude” and was very attentive to his work. In fact, space is modeled according to the needs and capabilities of people at one time or another. "Work" with it is not imbued with sacralization and is mostly done for pragmatic reasons. The concepts of space and place are different in the article. In the article we come to the conclusion that the novel «Heavy Sand». Іs a combination of personal memories and universal memory.
