Abstract
A review of the structure and essence of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF). Peculiarities of using ICF as a classification for coding have been revealed, in particular, coding requires not only a deep understanding of classification, but also the use of appropriate sources of information and assessment tools. It has been established that one of the challenges of describing functioning with the help of ICF is the selection of the correct codes included in the classification (whereas ICF-DP contains even more codes for describing the functioning of young children). It is noted that the data source, the approach to obtaining information and the level of detail should correspond to the final purpose of the assessment, i.e. specific purpose. At the same time, the point of view and training of appraisers will have an impact on the specificity or relevance of the information. It is relevant to use ICF in all sectors and with respect to all age groups, but in such a way that expand the opportunities of persons with disabilities, and not to state the fact of their problems.
