The proposed article focuses on the study of terms for the designation of sin not only as a fact of linguistic history. The main task of our proceedings is to identify a set of nominations of lexemes of the notion of “sin” in the German and Slavonic languages. Through historical and semiological analysis of the concept of “sin” in the Germanic and Slavonic languages such evolutionary models of semantics as ‘be’ → ‘what is (true)’ → ‘sin’, ‘transgression’ have been identified; ‘to make a sacrifice’ → ‘to pay’ → ‘to be guilty’; ‘payment for guilt’ → ‘guilt’, ‘sin’ (in the Germanic languages); ‘to persecute, attack’ → ‘to blame’; ‘prosecution’ → ‘guilt’; ‘something curved’ → ‘injustice’ → ‘guilt’; ‘curved, distorted’ → ‘unjust’ → ‘guilty’; ‘to bend’ → ‘to blame’; ‘?’ → ‘sin’, ‘transgression’ (in the Slavonic languages). For a more complete analysis of the phenomenon under consideration, works related to the history, culture, mythopoetics of Indo-European peoples are involved. Currently, some linguistic studios speak of the desacralization of the concept of “sin”, which should be considered not only in the context of religious beliefs, beliefs of different peoples, but also as an essential component of the analysis of a human moral being. The proposed study is a complement to previous findings that have focused on the historical and semasiological account of the concept of “guilt” in the Germanic, Slavonic and Iranian languages. In many cases, the correlation between ritual and legal factors in the terminology of semantics is traced, since the concept such as “guilt” undoubtedly refers not only to sacral, but also to legal terminology. Evolutionary models of semantics are built on a perspective principle. In the course of the research the types of semantic derivation, that is, the type of change in the meaning of religious and legal terminology in the lexico-semantic system of Indo-European languages, were distinguished.
