Abstract
At present, the concept of self-identification, national self-esteem and civic and national feelings are important to the younger generation. This serves to become familiar with the native culture, which is an expression of the life and worldview of a particular ethnic group, in this case, Ukrainian. The article presented touches on this area, narrowing the topic to the formation of ethnic consciousness with the help of folk art. It highlights part of the experimental scientific study "Psychological features of the formation of ethnic youth consciousness by means of Ukrainian folk embroidery." In diagnosing the ethnographic competence of young men on the material of perception of fragments of the Ukrainian traditional ornament, the task was solved to determine the competence in sign-symbolic graphemes at the perception of Ukrainian folk embroidery by the studied different groups and to find out whether the boys have a relationship between the selected graphemes, associating themselves and Ukraine manifests in this dyad the connection and on what it depends.
