Abstract
The article deals with the beginning and development of Vyacheslav Medvi’s creative path from the first student attempts to the publication of the first collection of short stories “Conversation” (1981). It describes the way of formation of dominant features of the individual style of the writer. The author’s first journalistic and literary publications during the school years are analyzed them in the local press. Manuscripts of V. Medvid’s poetic works of 1968–1975 and the manuscript of the novel “Completely Military Maneuvers” are thoroughly studied. The circle of the writer’s reading, accumulation of impressions and experience in different places of Ukraine and the USSR, in different spheres of activity is outlined. The specifics of the collection “Conversation” are characterized, which was continued and developed in the further works of V. Medvid, for example, the native village of Kodnya, the environs as an invariable chronotopic locus, transformed autobiographical basis of works; skillful stylization of characters’ language individualization of each character; chronicity of plots; “absence” of tendency, etc.
