Abstract
Nowadays, there are increased requirements for the level of formation of the language personality of a teacher, especially language teacher. Not only linguistic characteristics of speech (literacy, accuracy, imagery, logic, coherence, expressiveness), but also psychological features of the teacher’s language personality (motivational-semantic, productive, cognitive, regulatory, emotional and dynamic) are of great importance. The material of the article highlights the course and results of the experimental study of the problems of formation of the linguistic personality of a language teacher through the culture of foreign language reading. The purpose of the study was to develop effective pedagogical conditions and means of developing the language personality of the language teacher in the process of his education in the system of postgraduate education, including skills relative to intercultural communication. The study took place in three stages. At the 1st stage the motivational component was formed and the initial level of reading culture was reached. At the 2nd stage the peculiarities of the education of adult were taken into account and the average level of formation of foreign language reading skills was achieved. At the 3rd stage the personal developing range of a foreign language, skills of independent search of the information that allowed teachers to reach a high level of reading of foreign texts was used. It has been experimentally tested and substantiated that the method of creative reading (in our case, foreign language texts) is an effective means of developing and improving the linguistic, subject, linguistic and pragmatic competencies of language teacher. To form a model of the language personality of a language teacher in advanced training courses, it is advisable to use various exercises to develop the skills of introductory, teaching and exploratory reading. The article lists the similar exercises that have effectively contributed to the development of teachers’ language personality. The practical significance of the study is to present a model of improving the language personality of a language teacher by raising the level of culture of foreign language reading. This model takes into account the peculiarities of the individual influence of a foreign language on the individual and combines textual activity with speech, showing the linguistic personality in its development, moving from one level of language proficiency to the next.
